Jacksonville Dance Company (JDC) Competes at Their First

Competition of the 2021 Season - Solos and Duets

Jacksonville Dance Company, better known as JDC, whose home studio is Huff 'n Puff in Jacksonville, competed Solos and Duets in the Starpower Competition held at Robinson Auditorium in Little Rock.  JDC competed Sunday; dance competitions are being held a little differently these days due to Covid.  The competitions are held so that each dance company has their own time to compete and each studio competes at one time; in other words, a block of time is for their studio only.  Scores and winners are announced at the end of the day.  This way the studio is not exposed to other studios.  JDC was able to attend only one competition last year that was run in this same manner.  JDC was up against some large studios and we are quite proud of our dancers.  When the competition is held in this way (the only way they can be held, actually, at this time,) it makes it more difficult to get photos, but the instructors did the best they could and we will display what we can.  The JDC dancers range in age from four to seventeen.  This is the first year for some of the dancers to compete and others have been at Huff 'n Puff and JDC since they were as young as some of these beginning dancers are now.  The Mini's were taken to competitions two years ago (this being their third year to compete)  and this is the first year for the Itty Bitties to compete.  We are proud of JDC and the dancers who have supported JDC.  Ms. Lois and Ms. Rachel have done a fantastic job getting these performers ready for competition.

Each Competition Company has its own way of scoring and age groups, etc.  Starpower scores were numbered from one to five with the highest being five Elite.  Levels of competition were novice, intermediate and advanced.  Age breakdowns were eight and under, nine to eleven, twelve to fourteen and fifteen to nineteen.  JDC competed only solos and duets in this competition.  Results follow below.

Landree Malloy performed her lyrical to "Rainbow" and she was awarded Five Stars; Judges Choice Award of "Light up the Room"; Lyrical Category Winner for ages six and under and placed Fourth Overall.  Ms. Lois was the choreographer and teacher for this performance.  Landree also competed for Jax Gym Level One this year.

Mae Armstrong competed her lyrical to "Ashes" for which she was awarded 4.75 stars.  This performance was choreographed and taught by Ms. Lois.  Mae also com-petes Xcel Diamond in the Jax Gym Team. She is also assist-ant coach for Jax Gym Level Two gymnasts
