Lianna Overholser and Kaylee Pelkey performed their Lyrical Duet to "Footprints in the Sand" in the Novice Petite Category. This performance, taught by Ms. Lois, was awarded an Elite Diamond and received First Place.






































Lianna peformed her lyrical solo to "Only Hope" in the Novice Mini Category and was awarded an Elite Diamond and also received First Place. Ms. Lois was the instructor for this solo.
Performing lyrical in the Novice Mini Small Group to "You'll be in My Heart" were Mira Fischer, Landree Malloy, Leah Miller and Caia Sharp. The dancers, taught by Ms. Rachel, were awarded an Elite Diamond and placed First overall.
Competing Lyrical in the Competitive Teen Small Group to "Waves" were Mae Armtrong, Chandler Dean, Lauryn Hague, Lindsay Hague, Tori Kiser, Myla McGhee and Keanna Phelps. This group was awarded an Elite Diamond and placed Second. Ms. Rachel is the instructor for this performance.
Josie Epperson performed her jazz solo to "Rockstar" in the Novice Petite category. She was awarded a Diamond and placed fifth for her performance, which is taught by Ms. Rachel.
Landree Malloy performed her lyrical solo to "Rainbow" in the Novice Mini Category for which she was awarded a Diamond and Fourth for her performance, which was taught by Ms. Lois.
JDC COMPETES AT GROOVE DANCE COMPETITION
Jacksonville Dance Company aka JDC, whose dance home is at Huff 'n Puff in Jacksonville, competed in the Groove Dance Competition on Saturday, March 27, at Robinson Auditorium in Little Rock, Arkansas. JDC competed against sixteen other dance studios in this two-day competition. Due to Covid restrictions, dance competitions are being held with fewer dance companies competing at the same time. Awards are announced for the dances but overall scores were not announced until Tuesday afternoon (April 1). It was announced at that time that
JDC was awarded the Groove Award for top highest scoring studio of the entire weekend. And, additionally, the studio was awarded the Overall Technique Award. We are as proud of one award as the other! Just goes to show that those extra hours spent working in the studio pays off!!!
The Competition began at 4:00 Saturday afternoon with the performance of "Fabulous" a jazz routine taught by Ms. Rachel that was awarded a Diamond and First Place Overall in the Intermediate Petitie Small Group. Performing in this number wereJosie Epperson, Aubrey Hague, Hayes McMahan, Lianna Overholser and Lily Overholser. Due to very limited time span between numbers, pictures were not available of all groups. Professional photos have beem added for most of the performances. Also a few photos were taken from the previous competition. This is the seond competition of the season for JDC but the first for group performances - the prior competition, only solos and duets competed.
The dance performances were divided into number of performers in the group, age groups and level of performance - novice, intermediate, competitive, etc. If more than one age group is in the group, the ages are averaged - same goes for level of performances for group or number. Scoring was Saphire, Elite Saphire, Diamond and Elite Diamond.
Performing Jazz in Novice Mini Duet to "Get Your Sparkle on" were Adaline Trent and Zuhrina Williams. The duet, taught by Ms. Lois, was awarded an Elite Saphire.
Performing lyrical to " I Look to You" were Josie Epperson, Aubrey Hague, Hayes McMahan, Lianna Overholser, Lily Overholser and Kaylee Pelkey. The dancers, taught by Ms. Rachel, competed in the Intermediate Small Group category and were awarded a Diamond and placed Second.
Competing Jazz to "My Discarded Men" in the Competitive Teen Small Group Category and taught by Ms. Rachel, were Mae Armstrong, Chandler Dean, Lauryn Hague, Lindsay Hague, Tori Kiser, Myla McGhee and Keanna Phelps. The group was awarded an Elite Diamond and placed First.
Competing Hip Hop in the Novice Mini Small Group to "B. I. N. G. O" were Mira Fischer, Landree Malloy, Leah Miller and Caia Sharp. These dancers were taught by Ms. Lois and received a Diamond and placed Second.
"The Wiz" was performed in the Intermediate Junior Large Group performance in the Musical Theater category. This is an excellent example of different ages and levels performing in the same number. The performance taught by Ms. Lois received an Elite Diamond and First Place.
Performing Jazz to "I'm Your Girl" were Mira Fischer and Caia Sharp in the Novice Mini Duet category. The duet, taught by Ms. Rachel, received a Diamond and First Place.
Four-year old Adaline Trent performed her lyrical solo to "Colors of the Wind" (shown here demonstrating her dexterity - possibly due to her gymnastics training as a Jax Gym Level One gymnast). Adaline competed in the Novice Mini category and was awarded a Diamond and placed Second in her division. Adaline is taught by Ms. Lois.
Aubrey Hague performed her lyrical solo to "Head Above Water" in the Intermedate Petite Category. Aubrey, who is taught her solo by Ms. Rachel, received a Diamond and placed Third.
Chandler Dean and Myla McGhee competed their tap number to "Wanna Be Down" which was choreographed by Sydney Kneuven and taught by Ms. Lois. The performance was awarded an Elite Diamond and placed First. Chandler and Myla have been competing tap together for the past several years and have won several national titles. Way to go Young Ladies!
Hayes McMahan competed her solo to "I Put a Spell on You" in the Intermediate Petite Open Acro Category . Hayes is taught by Ms. Lois and received an Elite Diamond and placed First.
