Flame Gymnastics Co Ed Invitational

Fort Smith Convention Center

FEBRUARY 12 - 13 - 14, 2010

Luckily, the weather turned out to be just fine, and the further north and west that we traveled, the less snow we saw - which after a week of snow on the ground down our way was just fine with most of us!!!!  It was a long weekend though (for some of us) as the meet began on Friday and ended on Sunday.  Sixteen teams from Arkansas competed with two teams from Oklahoma and one team from Missouri.  The Flame Gymnastics Co-Ed Invitational is just that - a meet held for boys and girls teams.  Over 540 gymnasts competed this weekend at the Fort Smith Convention Center - a wonderful venue for competitions - with some sessions having boys competing on one floor while the girls were on another floor next to them, while still more female gymnasts were warming up in the large room next to their competition area.  The entire meet for the girls was split into two parts with gymnasts warming up, while others were competing, which helped the meet flow more efficiently.

The meet began earlier than usual on Friday as nine teams of 76 Level Five gymnasts competed in the noon time session on Friday.

Sixteen of the eighteen-member Jacksonville Level Five Team began competition in the Friday evening session with fifty-one gymnasts from six teams competing at the same time as  thirty-nine gymnasts from five Level Four Teams.  This may sound confusing for two levels to be competing at one time (if you are reading about the meet) but levels just do their own thing on each event and everything goes smoothly.

Gymnasts competing for Jacksonville were from ages eight thru thirteen.  Competing for Jacksonville were Sara Balenko, Madison Barnhill, Miranda Chambers, Daliaana Gonzalez, Katlyn Grace, Sara Heil, Olivia Hodson, Mollie Johnson, Jenna Mecca, Lauren Osburn, Jadyn Perkins, Sydney Shumate, Sarah Siebel, Allison Tubbs, Cambrie Wade and Marissa Wallace.

The Jacksonville Team won the Second-Place Team Plaque and the following top honors:

Honor pictures of the First-Place All-Around winners are shown at bottom of article - before the silly pics.

Fifty-four Level Six Gymnasts from thirteen teams competed in the early morning Saturday session which began at 8:00 a.m., which included ten members of the Jacksonville Level Six Team,  Sabrina Barger, Abby Houghtaling, Briyana Isaac, Anna Koehler, Reagan Lear, Allison Ramsey, Sierra Rohauer, Skylar Spaeth, Madi Spears and Shelby Yates.   Sarah Beavers was unable to attend due to illness.  The Level Six Team won the Fourth-Place Team Plaque and the following top honors:

Competing in the noontime session were fifty-seven gymnasts from thirteen teams, including the six Level Seven gymnasts from the Jacksonville Team.  Competing for Jacksonville were Taylor Butler, Rachel Flippen, Jessica McDonough, Jordan Rogers, Stephanie Singleton and Lynzie VanBrocklin.   The Jacksonville Team won the Fourth-Place Team Plaque and the following top honors.

Competing in the evening session were twenty-five Level Eight gymnasts from eight teams, eighteen Level Nine gymnasts from seven teams and two Level Ten gymnasts from two teams.

Competing for Jacksonville were the following Level Eight gymnasts:  Tonie Butler, Mackenzie Ellis, Kendra Lytch and Katelin McLain, ages ten, eleven, twelve and thirteen.  The Jacksonville Team won the Third-Place Team Plaque and the following top honors:

Mackenzie Ellis Third   Second   Second       Second
Kendra Lytch Second           Third   Third

You can tell by all the pictures that the gymnasts have had a great time competing - especially true for the Level Eight gymnasts shown here with the Third-Place Team Plaque.  From left to right are Kendra, Tonie, Katelin and Mackenzie.  The girls did an awesome job, considering that of the twenty-five gymnasts, fourteen were fourteen years of age and older!!!!

The six Jacksonville Level Nine gymnasts were among the eighteen gymnasts who also competed in the evening session.  Competing for the home team were Haley Edgin, Kimmie Edwards, Courtney Ellis, Tori Hanley, Taylor Rai Johnson and Sarah McAlister.  The Jacksonville team proudly won the First-Place Team Plaque against tough competition, and also won the following top honors:

Kayla Edgin, our Level Ten gymnast, was unable to compete due to an injury.  We are hoping she will be back able to compete by the St. Louis meet.

The morning 8:00 session can seem awfully early by the third day of the meet - The Jacksonville Gymnastic Level Four Team competed this Sunday morning  along with 86 gymnasts from eight teams.  Competing for the home team were Madison Dixon, Melanie Fortson, Catherine Hancock, Reagan Hodson, Macey Jasmin, Breanna Orr, Gracie Petefish, Graycyn Powers, Taylor Stauffer and Alex Wargo.  The team won the Sixth-Place Team Plaque and top honors for the team were won as follows:

      UNEVEN   BALANCE   FLOOR   ALL-

Madison Dixon         Second       Second
