JDC attends Showbiz Competition and has a Great Time!
Jacksonville Dance Company (JDC) attended the Showbiz Dance Competition that was held Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Robinson Auditorium in Little Rock. JDC actually competed on Saturday beginning at 8:00 that morning and ending with the awards announcement about 8:00 Saturday evening. The atmosphere at the meet was very relaxed and our dancers had fun performing. They also did well and all won all First-Place Awards.

There were several companies from Missouri and Texas and the rest were from Arkansas. There were over 117 acts in the first session of small groups, which included all genre of dance and all ages of performers, from five years old to adult. Performances are usually considered groups which include four to nine dancers. Large group performances usually have ten or more dancers and Line performances usually have about 20 performers and more, depending on the competition.

Performing tap to "Dr. Rhythm" were Ryann Young, Kira Jinkins, Micah Perry and Amber Bajorek, average age ten. The group proudly won a First Place, second high score. Ms. Sara instructs this group of dancers.
Performing tap to "Shake Your Pom Pom" and winning a First Place were the older dancers-- average age thirteen (left to right)--Alex Adams, Bailey Jo Rhodes, Tori Spears, Jessica Holeman, Stephanie York, Briyana Isaac, Kaitlin Soderlund and Hannah Moler. Kassie Shepard is also a member of this tap group but she badly sprained her ankle playing volley ball at school on Friday. Get well, soon Kassie - our groups miss you! Ms. Emily instructs this group of performers in their rousing tap number.
Shown here just before they went on stage to perform their lyrical dance to "Walk You Home" (average age eleven) are Bailea Jones, Christina Hensley, Katy Gorden, Kendra Lytch and Madi Spears. The dancers received a First Place High Score. Ms. Lindsey is the instructor for this performance. (Madi's face was not bruised - don't know what happened in this group of photos.)
These dancers, average age thirteen, performed to "Storm" and won a First Place, and tied for third-high score. The dancers are instructed by Ms. Lois. Front row (l to r) are Briyana Isaac, and Jessica McDonough; on back row are Jessica Holeman, Tori Spears and Niki Rodgers.
Performing Hip Hop to "When I Grow Up" are Emily Snell, second row, Regan Campbell, Mattie Taylor, Tegan Rea and Katie Turner; third row are Abbye Cody and Alexandria Pettus. The group, average age eight, and instructed by Ms. Sara, won a First Place.
These JDC dancers, average age eleven, performed Hip Hop to "Shawty Get Loose" and won a First Place, second-high score. Their instructor is Ms. Lois. Whereas many dance competitions run behind in their schedule, this competition was actually ahead of their schedule, but it still remained fairly calm, other than frantic calls were made to our dancers to ask them to arrive earlier than the usual one hour early arrival.
The First Awards Session for all small group performances was held a little before the scheduled 3:15 time.
