Regional Meet Information Below.

Jacksonville Gymnastics Level Eight Team Member, Kimmie Edwards, won the Individual All-Around Championship award for age 13 at this year's State Meet. She is one of the eight Jacksonville Team 2009 State Champions. And not only is Kimmie a State Champion, she also qualified, by her Individual All-Around score, to go to the Region Three Competitive Meet for Level Eight gymnasts. The meet is to be held soon in Norman, Oklahoma.
To qualify for Regionals, the gymnast must score in the top half of the Level Eight gymnasts at State Meet. Region Three is comprised of USAG gymnasts from Colorado, Kansas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas, Wyoming and Arkansas. Arkansas had 29 Level Eight gymnasts compete at the State Competition this year, so about 14 gymnasts from Arkansas will be attending the Regional Competition. We are very pleased that Kimmie qualified to compete in the Regionals.
Kimmie competed in the Level Eight Regional Competition Saturday night, April 25th and did very well. She got a 9.05 on vault, an 8.725 on bars, a 9.1 on beam and a 9.45 for a 36.325 AA. Kimmie was competing with 53 gymnasts in her age bracket. She was competing against very tough gymnasts from the seven states - Colorado, Kansas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas, Wyoming and Arkansas (I'm sorry I didn't get the number of gymnasts from Arkansas who went). We were very proud of Kimmie. Coach Erin coached her at the meet and we appreciate that very much because Coach Laurel was quite involved with her daughters being involved in eight of the group dances, plus a trio performance, during two of the three-day dance competition.

Kimmie posed on the beam at the Level Eight Regional Competition. She is wearing the Arkansas Competition Leotard for the meet. Each state had their own colors for the leotard. Congratulations, Kimmie, for doing such a great job of representing Jacksonville Gymnastics Team!!!!
A little bit about Kimmie and her gymnastics career!

Mr. Bobby met Kimmie and her mom at a birthday party back in 2004 when Kimmie was only eight years old. He talked to her mom about how strong Kimmie was and he felt sure that she would enjoy doing gymnastics. Kimmie started gymnastics in late October, 2004 and was immediately placed in Mr. Bobby's Saturday Level Two class; he soon moved her to Level Three (before we had Level Three team). She was tested for team in the spring of 2005 after taking gymnastics for several months and Kimmie began team gymnastics at Level Five that summer. Each year she progressed to the next level, competing this year at Level Eight. She told me today that her favorite event is vault - the event that takes a lot of upper body strength - and Kimmie certainly has that. We took these pictures on the beam, though, because a vault picture would be very difficult to take (for those of us who only take still shots - ha!)

Kimmie, we are so proud of you and we know you will do well at the Regional Competition!
Each team member on the Jacksonville Gymnastics Competitive Team is special. Each team member has her own individual strengths and skills. We are proud of not just one, but of each team member - we know their dedication to the sport and how hard they all train to be able to do what they do.
