JACKSONVILLE GYMNASTICS

The 2008 - 2009 Competitive Season is over for the Jacksonville Gymnastics Level Three Team.  The season began for the gymnasts in October with the Mock Meet that was held at our gym.  Their first real meet was the Harvest Invitational in West Memphis and their season ended with the Emerald Classic, hosted by our home team at the Cabot High School Gymnasium on March 6, 2009.  Between these two meets, the Level Three Team competed at the Holiday Classic in Sheridan, at the Pepsi Challenge in Hot Springs, and the Yankee Doodle Dandy in Pine Bluff.

The Level Three gymnasts seemed to exceed the expectations of their coaches, Christy Ellis and Laurel Spears.  The Team consisted of sixteen gymnasts, ages five to eleven.  Competing for the Jacksonville Gymnastics Level Three Team this season were Mattingly Bartole, Roberta Cordts, Madison Dixon, Melanie Fortson, Catherine Hancock, Reagan Hodson, Madison Houck, Macey Jasmin, Blair Jones, Breanna Orr, Gracie Petefish, Moni Sanders, Taylor Stauffer, Cambrie Wade, Alex Wargo and Eboni Wells.

One could just see the gymnasts grow better at each meet.  No team awards are given in Arkansas for Level Three Teams, so one does not really know how well the team competed, as a team, but we know individual skills were great and we know our team scores.  In the five meets that the Level Three gymnasts competed, the gymnasts earned 21 Individual All-Around First-Place Honors and 73 Event First-Place Honors.  Counting top three honors (and many were behind our own gymnasts) we had 49 Individual All-Around Top Honors (first, second or third) and 175      Event Top Honors, including the first-place honors already listed for All-Around and Events.

Team scores ranged from the lowest of 109.100 to highest of 113.950.  We were all very proud of the Level Three gymnasts.  They are working now to increase their strength and improve their skills.  They will work this summer toward the Level Four skills and it will be decided next August or September as to whether they will compete at the next level.
