Our biggest CONGRATULATIONS go to the Jacksonville Gymnastics Level Five Competitive Team for winning the 2007 STATE CHAMPIONSHIP BANNER. HURRAY!!! You all have worked so hard and competed so hard this season and you well deserve to the win the Championship. We are so proud of each of you.
The winning Level Five team members are Taylor Butler, Mackenzie Ellis, Amanda Hicks, Bailea Mitchell Jones, Kendra Lytch, Tiffany Maxwell, Stephanie Scroggins, Stephanie Singleton, Terionna Stewart, Allison Storeygard, Carol Walters and Madison Winstead.
Not only did the team win the State Championship, four of the gymnasts also won the All-Around State Championship. Those gymnasts are Taylor Butler, age nine; Stephanie Singleton, age twelve; Stephanie Scroggins, age thirteen; and Carol Walters, age fourteen.
The Level Five meet was held in three sessions, divided by age groups. Sixty gymnasts, ages ten and eleven, competed in the first session, which began at 9:00 a.m. Jacksonville had no ten-year-old gymnasts to compete with the 35, but Amanda Hicks and Allison Storeygard competed with the 25 eleven-year-old gymnasts. They both competed well and had a great time doing it.
In these sessions, the placements on each event went out only half-way, so even if there were 34 competitors, they placed only 17 for the events. For the all-around award, the lower placements were called individually, not necessarily by placement, and given their all-around award. Then the next 17 placements were called – or whatever the 50% would be for the age bracket.
Fifty-three Level Five gymnasts, including three gymnasts, age seven; fourteen gymnasts,
age eight; and 36 gymnasts, age nine, competed in the afternoon session. Jacksonville gymnasts who competed in this session were eight-year-old Mackenzie Ellis and nine-year-old Taylor Butler, Bailea Mitchell Jones, Kendra Lytch and Terionna Stewart.
Mackenzie placed second on bars and floor and won the second-place individual all-around. She missed winning the State Championship by only .075 of a point.
Terionna earned a 34 all-around and placed sixteenth in the top half of her age bracket. Bailea won first on beam with a tremendous 9.5 and second on floor with a 9.450. Kendra placed second on vault with a 9.150, sixth on bars with a 8.925, fifteenth on beam with a 8.7 and first on floor with a 9.6; her overall all-around score was 36.375, and she won second-place all-around (runner up to State Champion). Taylor placed eighth on vault with an 8.825, fifth on bars with a 9.050, sixth on beam with a 9.2 and third on floor with a 9.425, making her all-around score a 36.5 and winning her the State Championship for age nine. This is why a gymnast keeps competing hard on all events because even though it may not seem to be going right for you, the end result depends not only on your score, but on what the other gymnasts are scoring, too.
Jacksonville gymnasts who competed in the third session were Tiffany Maxwell, Stephanie Singleton, Stephanie Scroggins, Madison Winstead and Carol Walters.
Madison Winstead won second on vault, with a 9.175; third on bars with an 8.725, third on beam with a 9.125; her overall score of 35.375 won her the third place all-around for age thirteen.
Stephanie Singleton placed third on vault with a 9.050; first on bars with a 9.525; third on beam with a 9.2 and third on floor with a 9.15 for a 36.925 overall, and winning the Level Five State Championship for age twelve.
Stephanie Scroggins placed first on vault with a 9.475, first on bars with a 9.325, fifth on beam with an 8.9 and first on floor with a 9.3 for a total all-around score of 37.00, winning her the Level Five State Championship for age thirteen.
Carol Walters placed second on vault, first on bars and first on floor for an all-around of 35.175 and won the State Championship for Level Five for age fourteen.
The teams placing tenth to sixth were Westside Y, Williams, Durham’s, Tena’s and Delta.
Placing fifth to first, with fifth to second being very close, were
River City Gymnastics Total Score of 181.275 Fifth
Aspire Total Score of 181.3 Fourth
Flame Gymnastics Total Score of 181.5 Third
Dorsey’s Total Score of 182.2 Second
Jacksonville Gymnastics Total Score of 184.65 First and State Champions
The team’s record this year was very good, with five first-place wins; a second-place win; a fifth-place win at Shreveport; and no place at the recent Bartlesville meet where only three places were awarded; four State Champions and the 2007 State Championship Title and Banner.
Congratulations again gymnasts and coaching staff of Laurel Spears, Erin Wunderl, Stacy Howerton, Lois Bryan and Christy Ellis. And our gratitude and thanks for the supporting parents of these team members.

It appears that the Level Five girls like this pose below - but they are good at it and out of the four that I took of each of them, this pose turned out best for each of them - could be that they feel comfortable with it? Great going, girls!!!
