JACKSONVILLE GYMNASTICS RETURNS FROM MISSOURI
WITH THREE MORE TROPHIES!!!
The Jacksonville Gymnastics Team, Levels Five, Six, Seven and Eight competed at a large and tough meet at Springfield, Missouri, this past weekend and brought home three team trophies. Four hundred thirty-one gymnasts from 25 teams from Missouri and Arkansas competed in seven sessions beginning Friday evening and ending Sunday evening. The meet was so large that the host gym held three sessions for the 175 Level Five gymnasts, two sessions for the 139 Level Six gymnasts, one session for the 61 Level Seven gymnasts and one session for the 56 Level Eight, Nine and Ten gymnasts.
The four members of the Jacksonville Gymnastics Level Eight Team competed Saturday afternoon against eleven other teams. The Level Eight Team members are: Sarah McAlister, Meaghan Townsend, Emily West and Jessica Wilde. The other Arkansas teams were from Fayetteville, Springdale and Hot Springs. Other teams were from Kansas City, St. Louis, Jefferson City, Joplin and several other Missouri cities.
The ten members of the Jacksonville Gymnastics Level Seven team competed Saturday evening against 61 gymnasts from 14 teams. The Level Seven team won the 6th place team trophy, just .8 behind the large Williams Gym from Fayetteville. The Level Seven team members who competed are: Bonnie Brown, Kayla Edgin, Sissy Ghormley, Allison Guthrie, Taylor Rai Johnson, Shannon Mavity, Taja’ Mitchem, Missy Whittecar, Hannah Womack and Stephanie York.
The eleven Level Five team members competed early Sunday morning against 54 gymnasts from eight teams. The Jacksonville Gymnastics gymnasts won the third-place team trophy.
Seven of the ten-member Level Six team competed for Jacksonville Gymnastics in the Sunday afternoon session. The gymnasts competed against 56 competitors from 12 teams. The Level Six gymnasts won the second-place team trophy. Kierra Daniel won the first-place individual all-around for ten-year-old gymnasts. Audrey Nettles won second-place individual all-around for twelve-year-old gymnasts. Much to the delight of the gymnasts, the host gym--Ozark Mountain Gymnastics--had made arrangements for the first and second-place all-around gymnasts and the first-place team for each session to take a ride in an extra long white limousine. Kierra and Audrey were excited to be able to take one of those rides.
The twenty-three members of the Level Four team did not compete this past weekend. The next meet that Jacksonville Gymnastics Team will compete will be in Shreveport, Louisiana, at the end of January. The gymnasts from all five levels will attend this meet.
