JDC COMPETES AT THE NEXSTAR DANCE COMPETITION

SATURDAY - SUNDAY APRIL 14 - 15

WEST MEMPHIS CONVENTION CENTER

AND EARNS 15 PLATINUM AWARDS

 

The Jacksonville Dance Company attended its fourth dance competition of the 2011-2012 competitive season (with its competitions actually beginning in mid-February) and the Company did a FANTASTIC job!  They earned the highest honors of the Company history.  The Company competed eighteen performances and won fifteen platinum awards.  They also won the FDC Award of the Competition and Ms. Sara won a choreography award.  In other words, it was a wonderful weekend.

The competition was run much the same as others as to the size of groups, rules, etc.  Awards were silver, high silver, gold, high gold and platinum.

The performances are listed below in the order of competition.  The competition for JDC began Saturday at noon and ended after the awards were announced on Sunday after 4:00.

Teagan Rea kicked off the competition for JDC with her tap solo to "Mind Control.   She won a Platinum Award and won seventh overall out of 25.

The Tap One dancers performed to "Betty Boop" and won a Platinum.  They also won first in their category and were awarded third out of thirteen overall performances in their age bracket.  Competing in "Betty Boop" were Mae Armstrong, Chandler Dean, Tori Kiser, Isabel Ruiz, Olivia Snell and Neely Taylor. 

The musical theater performance of "Carn-Evil" won a Platinum and won first in their category and also won third out of thirteen overall.  They also won the Federation of Dance Competitions Award for the entire competition for u-tube video competition.  When we get word that the video is posted, we will let you know so that the performance can get as many votes as possible.    Performing to "Carn-Evil" in Large Group Musical Theater were JDC dancers Alex Adams, Breonna Brooks, Elizabeth Clark, Amari Felder, Abby Groff, Tori Kiser, Gabi Sefcik, Kassie Shepard, Emily Snell, Olivia Snell, Mattie Taylor, Neely Taylor, Katie Turner, Rachel Wyrick and Ryann Young. 

The Jazz One dancers performed to "Funky Monkey" and won a Platinum.  They also won first in their category and third out of ten overall.  The performers are Tori Kiser, Myla McGhee, Olivia Snell, Neely Taylor and Jada Williams.

The Hiphop Two performers performed to "Lil Rockstarz" and won a Platinum.  They also won first in their category and second out of ten overall performances.  They lacked eight points from having perfect score of 300.  Also, the competition judges awarded Ms. Sara the Choreography Award for this dance.  Performing were  Chandler Dean, Jaimee Hall, Tori Kiser, Olivia Snell, Coralyn Taylor, Neely Taylor and Jada Williams. 

The Hiphop One performers won a High Gold and first in their category for their performance to "School Girl Rock."  Performing were Amber Cadie, Jo Lee Camp, Alexis Hogan, Isabel Ruiz and Caley Sample.

Performing lyrical to "Sugarcane" and winning a High Gold and first in their category were the Lyrical One performers, Mae Armstrong, Chandler Dean, Jaimee Hall, Tori Kiser, Myla McGhee, Olivia Snell and Neely Taylor. 

The Hiphop 3.5 dancers performed to "We Run This" and won a High Gold, first in their category and fourth overall.  Performers were Abbye Cody, Madison Coffer, Emily Snell, Mattie Taylor and Katie Turner.

 

The following acts competed on Sunday. 

JDC Senior Lyrical dancers performed to "Arms of an Angel" and won a Platinum Award and First in their category.  The also won fifth out of seventh overall.  Performing in the lyrical dance were Amber Bajorek, Amanda Cross, Maitland Hurley, Hannah Taylor, Mattie Taylor and Rachel Wyrick. 

The Senior Hiphop dancers were designated the "Funky Females" Award by the judges - in addition to winning a Platinum and winning fourth overall out of six.  Performing were Alex Adams, Amber Bajorek, Amanda Cross, Tashia Duncan, Maitland Hurley, Katie Lopez, Alex Pettus, Courtney Randle, Kassie Shepard, Joi Smith and Kaitlin Soderlund.

The Tap Two dancers performed to "Jumpin Jack" and won a Platinum award.  Competing were Jo Lee Camp, Abby Groff, Sierra Hurley and Alex Pettus. 

Joi Smith and Rachel Wyrick performed a jazz dance to "My Discarded Men" and were awarded a Platinum; they were first in their category and won fifth overall out of eight performances.

Hiphop Three dancers performed to "Out of this World" and won a platinum award and first in their category.  Competing were Breonna Brooks, Elizabeth Clark, Amari Felder, Sierra Hurley, Wayne "Sonny" Rodgers and Gabi Sefcik. 

Kira Jinkins and Ryann Young performed their tap duet to "Party Rockin" and won a Platinum Award.  They were first in their category and won fourth overall out of fifteen performances.

The Senior Jazz dancers performed to "Pop, Drop, & Roll" and won a Platinum Award.  Performing were Alex Adams, Amanda Cross, Maitland Hurley, Kassie Shepard, Joi Smith, Kaitlin Soderlund, Hannah Taylor and Rachel Wyrick.

The Senior Tap Dancers performed to "Rhythm Nation" and won a Platinum Award and first in their category.  They also won fourth overall out of eight performances.  Dancers performing in this number were Alex Adams,  Tegan Rea, Kassie Shepard, Kaitlin Soderlund, Hannah Taylor, Mattie Taylor, Katie Turner, Rachel Wyrick and Ryann Young. 

Alex Adams, Kassie Shepard and Kaitlin Soderlund tapped to "Super Sonic" and won a Platinum Award and first in their category.  They also won fourth overall out of eight numbers.

Kaitlin Soderlund performed her tap solo to "The Hardest" and won a Platinum Award and first in her category.  She placed tenth overall out of 27 performances.

Jacksonville Dance Company will compete next in Talent on Parade in Little Rock at the Robinson Auditorium in the four-day competition, April 26 - April 29th.
