JACKSONVILLE GYMNASTICS
COMPETITIVE TEAM
MOCK MEET
Saturday, October 22, 2011
Every year at this time Jacksonville Gymnastics Coaches hold a Mock Meet for the competitive gymnasts. This meet is held to give the gymnast, her parents and coaches a true idea of the progress of the gymnast. USAG certified judges are brought to the gym for this purpose.
And Saturday, October 22nd, we accomplished this goal. Gymnasts competed all day long from 10:00 to 6:15 in three different sessions. The gymnasts were excited and had a great time, as did the parents and grandparents. The mock meet gives all a chance to see what progress needs to be accomplished during this next month - before our first meet which is held in mid-November.
Jacksonville Gymnastics Competitive Team consists of nearly 100 gymnasts, Levels Two through Ten. Head coach is Laurel Adams and she is assisted by a very able coaching staff who are all part of this successful team. Coaches for the Team are Kayla Edgin, Christy Ellis, Dennis Harris, Michal Hodson, Kerri Hogan, Stacy Howerton, Kristi Johnson, Michelle McGowan, Lindsey Sweet and Jackie York.
Parents, when I report on meets with other competing teams, I usually report on who, of our team gymnasts, received top honors, either placing first, second or third on both events and all-around placements. For this mock meet, when our gymnasts were competing with each other, I will not report on placements. Also, gymnasts from both locations, Jacksonville and North Little Rock, compete as one team, of which we are very proud. Coaches at both locations work very hard with our gymnasts to help them be the best they can be. Thank you coaches for your hard work and thank you gymnasts for working so hard for your coaches and for yourself.
Ms. Laurel is talking to the parents of Levels Two, Three and Four gymnasts as those team members stretch. Ms. Laurel is explaining how meets are run and what is expected of parents.
Coaches give last minute instructions and words of encouragement to the gymnasts before the meet begins.
The Mock Meet was held in three sessions - the Levels Two, Three and Four gymnasts competed in the first session that began at 10:00. This is the first year for Jacksonville Gymnastics to compete gymnasts at Level Two who are as young as ages four through seven. The Level Two gymnasts are coached by Ms. Stacy, Ms. Jackie and Ms. Michal. Twelve gymnasts competed Saturday at Level Two. Those gymnasts were Anna Baggett, Tristan Brown, Kenzie Howerton, Kasha Lincoln, Sarah Grace Moss, Abby Reed, Lakin Shaw, Madilynn Sober, Isabella Staggs, Whitney Stewart, Parkin Toula and Tessa West. Unavailable to compete was Cassidy Alford.
Level Two gymnasts pose here after completing their first competition at the Mock Meet. It was difficult to judge who was most proud - the gymnasts, the parents or the entire staff!!!!
Also competing in the first session was our largest group of gymnasts - the Level Three gymnasts, who range in age from five to ten. Those gymnasts are Sidney Andrews, Maryann Armstrong, Nashira Bell, Ashlynn Black, Hannah Boswell, Taylor Brown, Riley Craig, Emma Dill, Revell Hogan, Caroline Jolly, Mia Jones, Jasia Joshua, Alexiana Lebby, Melanie Mackey, Katherine Miller, Madison Moon, Kaitlynn Morin, Abby Nelson, Sierra Smith and Bree Williams. Johanna Wolter was unavailable to compete.
What great-looking proud competitors these Level Three gymnasts are!!!!
The third level of gymnasts to compete in the first session of the day were the Level Four gymnasts, who range in age from seven to fifteen. Competing in the Mock Meet were Kylie Belew, Kaitlin Beratto, Molly Boroughs, Chandler Dean, Kayla Goldsmith, Katie Groff, Hannah Heflin, Sophie Miller, Isabelle Rhodes, Samantha Stephens and Madison Weeks. Unable to compete were Ariana Barrett, Marissa Brown and Carson White.
Yes - they should be happy - they are Level Four gymnasts now!!!!
The second session of the day started about 12:30. The Level Five and Level Six gymnasts competed in this session.
The competing Level Five gymnasts range in age from seven to fourteen. They are Lyndi Brown, Alexis Clouser, Jordan Cooper, Makenzie Cresswell, Brenna Frandson, Scarlett Frederic, Rani Heinmiller, Harlyn Hogan, M'Lynn Johnson, Autumn Klein, Peri Smith, Sydney Spillane, Mayla Spoon, Elizabeth Thornhill, Alexis Truesdail and Alexandria Wargo. Unable to compete was Iona Kegler.
Each level requires more advanced skills and these gymnasts have been working very hard this past year to be able to compete at Level Five.
Level Six is not an easy level - because much is expected of those skills learned over the years. Gymnasts don't just "walk into" these skills. These Level Six gymnasts who compete for Jacksonville Gymnastics range in age from age nine to thirteen. These gymnasts are Sara Balenko, Mia Faulkner, Sara Heil, Olivia Hodson, Morganne Jumper, Cami Kita, Jenna Mecca, Ainsley Robinson, and Taylor Stauffer. Unable to compete were Miranda Chambers, Danielle Sheesley and Kaitlyn Sheesley.
The third session of the day began about 3:00 and was for Levels Seven, Eight, Nine and Ten.
Competing at Level Seven is a big step and requires even more difficult skills, but it's a really fun level because it is at this level when the gymnasts are able to select their own music for the floor work and perform the routine specially choreographed for them. The same applies to their beam routine. A giant is required for the bars which is usually not attained in a short period of time. Competing in the mock meet were Sabrina Barger, Briyana Isaac, Madi Spears, Allison Tubbs, Lynzie VanBrocklin and Kaytee Wright. These gymnasts range in age from ten to fifteen. Unable to compete in the Mock Meet were Madison Cresswell, Emma Faulkner, Joshuline Gaynor, Skylar Martin, Alyssa Peters, Sierra Rohauer and Sarah Seibel.
The Level Eight gymnasts on the Jacksonville Gymnastics Team range in age from eleven to seventeen. These competing gymnasts are Hollyann Beckner, Taylor Butler, Tonie Butler, Jessica McDonough, Allison Ramsey and Jordan Rogers. Competing as a vault specialist this year is Reagan Lear and competing as a floor and beam specialist is Stephanie Singleton.
As you can see, these Level Eight gymnasts had a great time at the meet
Our Level Nine gymnast is Katelin McLain. Katelin is pictured below with our two Level Ten gymnasts.
We're off to a great start and we have high hopes for this season for Haley, Level Ten, Katelin, Level Nine, and Taylor Rai, Level Ten.
Stephanie and Taylor Rai are our two competing seniors - both gymnasts have been with us for many years and we've seen them grow up from the young girls that they were when they came to us to the young ladies that they are today.
The Mock Meet was a lot of fun, a lot of work and a prelude to the work ahead. The first competition will be held by Delta Gymnastics at their home gym at West Memphis. The competition is scheduled for November 18 - 20th.
