2011-2012 GYMNASTICS COMPETITION SEASON

HAS ARRIVED!!!

The Jacksonville Gymnastics Team coaches and gymnasts have been working hard since last March, and especially over the summer, just for this weekend when the competition season began again.  For several years, Jacksonville Gymnastics Team has begun their competition season at the Harvest Fest Meet held by Delta Gymnastics at their home gym in West Memphis.  The Jacksonville Gymnastics Competitive Team (now also known by the short name Jax Gym) competed Levels Two, Three, Four, Five, Six and Seven at the meet, which was a rather small meet.

In case you are new to our gymnastics team or our website, when we attend a meet, I try to get the team level picture for the website and team history.  I also tell about top honors earned at a meet, which would include top three placements for events and individual all-around honors.  I also started the tradition last year of featuring the gymnasts who win First-Place Individual All-Around Honors, by displaying their individual picture in addition to the team pictures.  (Sometimes, though, I get wrapped up in the meet and forget to take these particular pictures and I would hope if your child wins that First-Place Individual All-Around honor, and I don't remember to take the picture, that you would remind me because I don't mean to overlook anyone.)  These gymnasts work very hard for their honors and we do want them to receive the recognition that they deserve.  In the chaos of the first meet of the season for our youngest team members and trying to get team pictures taken, etc., I did not get the pictures of the Level Two and Level Three First-Place Individual All-Around Honor winners, but I will get pictures of them at the next meet (or during the next two weeks) and get them on this article.

I will also try to remember to later on add a link here to an older article which I will try to rewrite that tells a little about how scoring is done and how team scores are figured, etc.

The Delta Gym always hosts a great competition - between their well-run meet, their great concession stand and the Waiting Time Entertainment - everyone has a great time.  There is always a bit of waiting time while computer scores for the events are completed.  Mr. Barry hold handstand competitions for the different ages which the gymnasts thoroughly enjoy - as do the parents.  He also has the Level Ten Boys Gymnasts who help out at the meet show off their tumbling skills.  Most of us never get to see in person that level of tumbling and we were all in awe and we thank the boys for showing off for us.

THE MEET

The meet began Friday night with Levels Two and Three competing.  Jax Gym had the largest group of gymnasts at the meet at each session.

This is the first year for Jax Gym to compete Level Two gymnasts and our gymnasts range from four years to seven years of age.  Nine of the thirteen-member Level Two Team gymnasts who competed Friday night were:  Tristan Brown, Kenzie Howerton, Sarah Grace Moss, Abby Reed, Lakin Shaw, Madilynn Sober, Isabella Staggs, Whitney Stewart and Tessa West.

Shown here with their ribbons, scorecards and trophies, after  an exciting but sort of tiring evening, are the Level Two gymnasts, who competed at their very first meet.  They all did such a great job!  From left to right are Isabella, Tessa, Madilynn, Tristan, Lakin, Kenzie, Abby, Sarah Grace and Whitney.

I am not listing top honors for the Level Two gymnasts since the Jax Gym team members were competing against one another.  The honors will be listed when the competition is against other teams.  Our Level Two gymnasts, however,  all won top honors in cuteness!

Also competing in the Friday night session were 38 Level Three gymnasts, including the 20 Jax Gym team members. The Jax Gym Level Three Team members range in age from six years to ten years.  The gymnasts who competed Friday night were:  Sidney Andrews, Mae Armstrong, Nashira Bell, Ashlynn Black, Hannah Boswell, Taylor Brown, Riley Craig, Emma Dill, Revell Hogan, Caroline Jolly, Mia Jones, Jasia Joshua, Melanie Mackey, Katherine Miller, Madison Moon, Kaitlyn Morin, Abby Nelson, Sierra Smith, Bree Williams and Johanna Wolter.

In Arkansas, team honors are not usually awarded to Level Three and younger Teams.  We don't know the scores of the other teams, but we were very proud of our gymnasts as they did very well.

We couldn't get it all together after the meet - everyone was so excited and all.  I have two pictures of the Level Threes and still didn't get everyone in either of the pictures, but we'll do better next time.  And I'm sorry, but I am unable to  identify the young gymnasts yet.

Level Three gymnasts  - we are so proud of all of you.
