As I left the CHS gymnasium tonight, (Sunday 7:30) several dozen people were still there, tearing down equipment and loading it all into the big 53-foot 18-wheeler trailer.  I decided that I want to thank people here at the first of the article because it usually ends up at the end.  And I don't really know where to start with the thank-yous.  First, thank you to all the gyms who came to compete at our meet, to their coaches and to the parents who made the effort to bring the gymnasts to our meet (and a special thank you to Elite II and Acrosports.)

I want to thank our coaches--Ms. Laurel, Ms. Erin, Ms. Christy and Ms. Lois--for all the work they did to make this such a successful meet and also to the same coaches and additionally, Ms. Stacy and Ms. Michal for working so hard not only at the meet with our kids but during the year to get them to this point.  I also want to thank the fantastic staff at Huff 'n Puff for their untiring efforts, all year long but especially at the meet - they all put in three long days of hard work--Ms. Kristi, Ms. Jackie, Ms. Shelly and Ms. Allison, who becomes a staff member at meet time.  We thank our parents (moms and dads) for all the hard work they did this weekend - in every aspect of the meet.

We especially want to thank Reggie and the hard-working men and women from the Little Rock Air Force Base for helping set up the equipment early Friday morning and taking down the equipment and were still loading the truck, as I write.  It is a hard job and we so appreciate their efforts.  We thank Mr. Bobby, who was there Friday to help setup and was there again tonight to help with the take-down.  Mr. Bobby would have been there all weekend long, but he was holding down the fort with birthday parties and fun night at Huff 'n Puff.  A thank you also to John Ellis with his helpers, Glynnis and Sissy Ghormley, for the accounting of the scores in such a timely manner, and to Michael York for running the music for the meet - and another thank you to Charlie Pillow and Kim Park for being our on-site medical staff for the weekend.  Many of our moms were there for very long hours, too, and we really appreciate their support. Now, I feel that we have just received the Oscar (in several categories) and are trying to give our acceptance speech - who could we have forgotten?  I don't want to forget Laurel as Meet Director and Erin and Christy as her most able assistants.  This could not have happened without all your efforts.

We also wish to thank those businesses that supported us in our meet:  Eric Hodson State Farm Agency-North Little Rock; Cracker Barrel-North Little Rock;Cici's Pizza-Jacksonville; Wendy's-Jacksonville; Sorellas Italian Restaurant-Cabot; The Diner-Cabot; Colton's-Cabot; Daylight Donuts-Cabot; and Mitchell Williams Law Firm-Little Rock.

Don't know what it looked like inside the trailer when it arrived, but have been told there was not room for another thing when it left the high school tonight about 9:45.  Thanks again to our parents and the men and women from Little Rock AFB who so ably and willingly helped us with the enormous task.

The reason for the large truck was to handle the double equipment for the meet - equipment for the competition area and separate equipment for the warm=up area.  We are grateful to Cabot High School for allowing us to hold our competition in their gym, as it allows us to utilize the smaller gym as a warm-up area.  This speeds up the competition and more gymnasts can compete - otherwise, we might have to go nine sessions instead of seven!

Level Four Gymnasts utilizing the warm up area.

The meet ran very smoothly.  Seven sessions were held, beginning on Friday evening at 5:00 and ending competition on Sunday night about 7:30.  Awards of large medals on navy blue ribbons were awarded to each child on each event.  Jacksonville Gymnastics also has a tradition of giving a special trophy to the winner with the highest all-around score for each session.  That is a very special award and when a gymnast gets scores as high as these gymnasts did, it's very nice to  honor them and their hard work with something very special.  Trophies were also given for team wins.

The meet started Friday afternoon at 5:00 with competition between 104 Level Four Gymnasts from ten teams--Delta, Durham's, Flame, Flip Over, Increased Heights, Maumelle Gymnastics, River City, Sonshine, Tena's and Jacksonville.

Beginning of Friday 5:00 session - 103 Level Four Gymnasts Warming up - and this was just a few of them shown here.
