RECREATIONAL DANCE PROGRAMS

Combination Classes - Our combination classes are for children, ages five and six; seven to nine; and ten and above.  The classes are designed, according to age, to lay an overall foundation of basic skills in each ballet, jazz and tap, to better prepare students for specific disciplines that they might choose in years to come.

Lyrical Classes – Ballet is incorporated into this form of dance in such a way as to make the movements fun and beautiful.  Performed simply as “poetry in motion,” lyrical dance often uses the lyrics from songs to nonverbally express the music.  Having a ballet background is important to mastering this dance technique.  This form of dance is incorporated into intermediate and advanced jazz classes.

Hiphop  -  Popularized on music videos, students of this "street dancing" learn rhythm and style to today's most popular music (age appropriate). This class is more funky and less technical than Jazz.

Tap - In our tap classes, students develop coordination, rhythm, strength and stamina.  Through the use of shuffles, flaps, ball changes and other beginning steps, students learn basic techniques and rhythm.  As students progress, emphasis is placed on control, speed, smoothness and more advanced steps.  Close floor work, speed, and clarity of sound are emphasized.

Jazz - Jazz dance is a fun, high-energy choreographed workout that involves learning basic postures, stretches and fundamental movements.  Class begins with warm-up stretches and flexibility exercises.  Floor work, jazz techniques, across-the-floor combinations, and choreography, which may incorporate some funky and urban moves, are taught.  Jazz focuses on body isolations of the head, shoulders, ribcage, feet and arms.  Jazz also encourages individual expression and the development of personal style.

Tap ‘n Tumble/Ballet ‘n Tumble

Our preschool dance program is divided into a half hour of ballet or a half hour of tap, combined with a half hour of gymnastics.  Preschool dance classes get involved with lots of imagination to keep the interest and attention of young students.  Children use large motor skill movements such as jumping, skipping and hopping, and are made aware of music and rhythm.  Exercises for building physical strength and coordination are offered in a fun and nurturing atmosphere.  Children also learn the discipline and manners required in the dance studio.
