2009 SKILLS REVUE

at Huff n Puff

JUNE 2, 2009

Everything went very well Tuesday night and we were actually ahead of schedule all evening long.  We think the gymnasts, parents and grandparents all had a great time.  I know that the staff enjoyed the evening.  We're so proud of all of our kids.  It's amazing how much each age or each level can do and it's really fun to see how the kids that we've had for several years have grown in size and in their skills.  We are also very, very proud of our staff!!!!!

We were also very pleased that members of the different levels of the Jacksonville Gymnastics Competitive Team exhibited for the audience their tumbling skills, that were not only very enjoyable to watch but also helped the parents and grandparents to see what can be accomplished through the sport of gymnastics.

Parents, I tried to get pictures  at each performance and I'm certain that I did not get pictures of each child or each group - some of the children I have several times because they happened to be in a different group than I started with.  I do hope you will enjoy seeing the pictures that I did get and please remind the grandparents about the website, too.  The pictures are rather large and may take a while to upload.  They are displayed according to the schedule of the Revue.

The Skills Revue gymnasts are treated just as our team gymnasts are treated.  Each was recognized individually on the podium and presented with a medal and a Certificate of Performance.  They were then presented with a colorful balloon and a very nice green gym bag or backpack with some great goodies in the bag.  (A great many of the blue and green balloons ended up on the ceiling of the gym, but most were tied to the bag so as to not get away!!!!)

Also, You've Got the Look Photography Studio was available for pictures to be taken and posters made for the gymnasts.  We always appreciate them, too.

Our deep appreciation to our parents for your support of our programs.  Our appreciation also to our wonderful staff members who devote so much of their time and energies to your children.

Our coaches are Lois Bryan, Bobby Churches, Christy Ellis, Dena Gorden, Kristi Johnson, Michelle McGowen, Sara Rettstatt, Lindsey Sweet and Jackie York.   Sissy Ghormley is Assistant Team Coach.  Erin Wunderl, Assistant Head Team Coach, also teaches preschool gymnastics.  Laurel Spears, Head Team Coach, is also Director of all Operations, including Dance and Gymnastics.

By the way, if you did not pick up a program at the Front Desk for the Revue, extra copies are there for a few days, so please pick up yours for your child's memory book.

The PRE-SCHOOL GYMNASTICS Presentation began at 4:30.  The gymnasts were broken down into groups and stations were set up around the room for the preschool gymnasts to show off their various skills.  The coaches were assisted by various team members whose mothers are also coaches or are part of our staff.

I just had to start off with this picture - I didn't even see it when I was taking it, but just cracked me up when I saw it.  I almost think we should have a "caption contest" for the picture.

Oh Good - All's Well Now!!!!

Ms. Dena and her daughter Katy (who always helps mom with her classes) are shown here with some of their students.  They were also assisted by Sissy (to left) and Taylor Rai (shown in the next picture.)

Patiently awaiting their turn on one of the events.

Hey - we did it, Mom and Dad!!!!  These gymnasts are also classmates in their Daycare or Preschool.

It's just amazing that this little one, who just turned three in January has the strength to climb this rope.   Abby is Ms. Dena's student and attends gymnastics classes twice a week and it shows as she demonstrated her strength and coordination and fearlessness.

Abby went even further up the rope and would have gone higher but we had to rotate to the next event.

Devin has also been with us two or three years and appeared on our website a long time ago.

What Pictures?  Can't you see that I'm busy working on my skills?

We've always said that Huff 'n Puff is a Family Affair.  Ty is shown here with mom Coach Erin.

This little one was such a sweetie and gave me a big hug before she left.

Practicing their Team Pose, are these three preschoolers who went directly from  advanced preschool classes to Level Three Team.  Gymnasts, this is awesome!!!  Shown here, from left to right are Sydney, Meia and Chandler.

These Jacksonville Gymnastics Level Three gymnasts from last year (all are working on Level Four skills now) exhibited the skills that new Level Three Gymnasts will be working on for next year.  Thanks so much girls for coming to represent your Level Threes.  From left to right, front row are Alex Wargo, Madison Houck, Macey Jasmin, Melanie Fortson and Blair Jones.  Back row gymnasts are Taylor Stauffer, Eboni Wells and Roberta Cordts.  One of the skills that these gymnasts are working on is a roundoff-back handsprings combination.  Actually, most of the gymnasts are close to achieving the skill and several are already doing double and triple back handsprings.
