November 20 - 21 2009
The 2009 - 2010 Competition has now officially begun for Jacksonville Gymnastics - well, at least for the compulsory levels. Levels Three, Four, Five and Six began their season this weekend at the Harvest Invitational Meet, hosted by Delta Gymnastics at their home gym in West Memphis. The Harvest Invitational has traditionally been our first competition of the season for many years. It gives our gymnasts a good opportunity to "get their feet wet" for the new competitive season. Barry and his staff at Delta always host a fun meet; besides the competition, the gymnasts look forward to the handstand competitions that are held after the real competition - this is really done to give the computer operators time to figure the scores. The gymnasts don't really care why - they just know that they have fun!!!
The meet was attended by gymnasts from ten teams from Arkansas and one team from Tennessee. The competition began Friday night with Level Three gymnasts as well as competition between a few Level Four teams. The meet ended Saturday evening with the competition of more Level Four teams. Usually a gymnast will compete against gymnasts of her own age bracket, but sometimes age brackets are combined, depending on how many gymnasts are in the age bracket.
Placement honors are awarded each gymnast within each age division for each event and for the individual all-around honors. The individual all-around score for each gymnast is figured by adding the gymnast's four event scores. After all gymnasts honors are awarded, team awards are given. To figure the team's score, the top three individual scores for each event are totaled and then those four event numbers are totaled for team score. The team scores are based on totals from three gymnasts, but sometimes totals for five gymnasts are figured for levels three, four and five.
As determined by the Arkansas State Director, team awards are not awarded for Level Three teams. Their individual honors and all-around honors are, however, awarded and the Jacksonville Level Three Team did very well.
The Jacksonville Gymnastics Level Three gymnasts range in age from five years to ten. Competing Friday night were Kaylin Braughton, Lexi Brown, Caitlin Culpepper, Chandler Dean, Sydney Fortson, Scarlett Frederic, Shelby Haver, Julia Hughes, Iona Kegler, Mayla Spoon, Elizabeth Thornhill, Alexis Truesdail, Carson White and Meia Young.
The following Jacksonville Gymnasts won top (first, second or third) Event and All-Around honors:
| AGE | NAME | VAULT | BARS | BEAM | FLOOR | ALL-AROUND |
| 5 | Chandler Dean |
3 |
||||
| 5 | Meia Young | 1 | 1 | 3 | 1 | 1 |
| 5 | Sydney Fortson | 3 | 2 | 1 | 2 | |
| 7 | Elizabeth Thornhill | 2 | 2 | 1 | 1 | 1 |
| 7 | Lexi Brown | 3 | 3 | 2 | 3 | |
| 7 | Mayla Spoon | 1 | 1 | 2 | 2 | |
| 8 | Caitlin Culpepper | 1 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 1 |
| 8 | Carson White | 2 | 2 | 2 | 2 | 2 |
| 8 | Julia Hughes | 3 | 3 | |||
| 9 | Iona Kegler | 2 | 2 | 3 | 2 | 1 |
| 9 | Scarlett Frederic | 3 | 3 | 1 | 1 | 2 |
| 9 | Shelby Haver | 1 | 2 | 3 | 3 | |
| 10 | Kaylin Braughton | 1 | 2 | 1 | 2 | |
| 11 | Alexis Truesdail | 2 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 1 |
I want to point out Iona's Event honors and her All-Around. One cannot always determine by event placements what the all-around will be. It all depends on the score and the total. Iona may have not received an event first, but her total all-around score was the highest.
We are very proud of our Level Three Gymnasts - not only for the skills but for their meet behavior and composure.

We are so proud of all of our gymnasts and we wish to thank our wonderful parents for their support! It's going to be a fun season!!!!!
Below are a few actions shots of Level Three gymnasts taken by a parent. I appreciate good shots. Many times the lighting is not good enough to photos during the meet but the beam and bar areas had pretty good lighting at Delta.

Good Job, Gymnasts! I'm sure that the rest of the team did just as well. These turned out exceptionally well because we were so close - we won't be able to be this close again.
