JACKSONVILLE DANCE COMPANY
HAS CONTINUED SUCCESS
Congratulations to the Jacksonville Dance Company and to the Huff ‘n Puff instructors. We are so proud of each of you.
Each instructor and the dance groups have contributed to the continued success of the Company, and each year the performances have gotten even better.
The Company performed eleven to eighteen dances in four different competitions this year and won several top competition awards. In the last competition--Talent on Parade--the Company won eight Elite Top First Awards, seven Top First awards and three First-Place awards. In early July, the Company dancers will be attending the Talent on Parade National Competition to be held in Branson, Mo.
Members of the Dance Company range in age from six to teens and they all did exceptionally well each time they competed.
Ages of the groups are mixed and ages are averaged for each group. A dancer may dance in different age groups for different genre of dance. Jacksonville Dance Company performed the following dances in the 2008-2009 competitive season:
Tap – “Dr. Rhythm, Get Me Bodied, Shake Your Pom Pom”
Tap Solos – “Low, One Girl Revolution, Do It Well”
Lyrical – “Broken, In My Arms, Storm” Trio – “Walk You Home”
Lyrical Solo – “Purple Rain;” Modern Solo – “In the Garden”
Hiphop – “When I Grow Up, Shawty Get Loose, Closer, Krazy;” Hiphop Solo – “Bojangles” Musical Theater “Moses Supposes” Jazz – “Get Up off that Thing”

DANCE COMPANY AUDITIONS
Auditions for 2009-2010 Dance Company will be held weekend of August 8. If you are interested in your child auditioning, it is important that your child attend the company preparation (technique) classes that will begin the week of July 13 (after the National Competition). More information will be posted on the classes. Company classes stress dance technique and presentation. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask Ms. Laurel or your child’s dance instructor.

My thank-you letter and my letter of appreciation is not any less sincere being a repeat performance on my part. I have often spent hours trying to figure out how to say how much we appreciate you and your support, and I honestly think that what I’ve written in the past is quite appropriate and expresses my feelings. Our friendships deepen and we seem to become more like family every year. My honest wish is that you feel about us in the same manner that we feel about you – this applies to our staff and to our students and families.
At this time of year for the past 28 years or longer, I have sat down to try to write a few lines, in an effort to express my gratitude and appreciation to all our students and parents and to our staff for all that goes into this performance tonight. We have come so far from the very first recital on the stage at the Thomas Community Center at LRAFB, to the Jacksonville Community Center, to every high school in the area--from Cabot to North Pulaski, Jacksonville and even North Little Rock--to performing for the sixth year here at Robinson Center Music Hall.
We are thankful for the opportunity to perform here tonight and it is because of the hard work of our staff and your children, and your continued support of our staff, that we are able to be here. I wish to thank all of you for that support.
Whether this is your first Huff ‘n Puff recital, or your eighteenth (or even twenty-eighth,) we hope you are as proud of your children and their performances as we are.
Our Goal from the very first year has been “We want your child to enjoy the pleasure of learning the art of dance or the skills of gymnastics while also experiencing the joy of achievement.” It is our sincere hope that when grown, your children will remember the fun and the achievements gained from their years at Huff ‘n Puff. I feel that our staff is a remarkable group and we hope that you also feel they are playing a positive part in your child’s life.
We hope also that you have as much pride in us as we have in your children and their accomplishments.
I appreciate our entire staff—teaching, coaching and office—for all that they do every day for us and for your children. Some of our staff members have been with us since they were children themselves, and our entire staff is like an extended family. And even though they grow up and go on to their chosen life career plans, they will always be a part of our family. But we will miss seeing them weekly. Words can never express how much we think of them and our appreciation for all they have meant to us and to your children.
And last, but not least, I would like to honor my daughter. The responsibilities required for managing this business are endless and not accomplished without a good deal of sacrifice. My pride lies not only in Laurel’s ability to dance or teach but also in her ability to see things as they are, to relate to people and to care for the students. Her creative talents, combined with dedication, and her courage to set higher goals, and to help the students attain those goals, have made Huff ‘n Puff an even better training facility for dance, gymnastics and cheerleading.
Your continued support of Laurel and our staff is sincerely appreciated. Without your support, we would be nothing. My gratitude to all, over the years, is overwhelming.
