Well - the big day finally arrived - the day for which we've been waiting since last season ended and at least since the Mock Meet for the Levels Three thru Six was held - The OPTIONALS MOCK MEET!!!! This meet was held Saturday, November 15th at Huff 'n Puff, the home of the Jacksonville Gymnastics USAG Junior Olympic Competitive Team, Level Three - Nine! The meet began promptly at 10:00 and ended about 2:00 with the awards ceremony. The mock meet was also the unveiling of the brand new team leotards. The leotards are navy and silver and broken with a ribbon of lime green lined with crystals. They look really sharp across the gym floor and are quite flattering to each gymnast.
Judging the meet for us were USAG certified judges Alison Bradley and Robin Smith. Thank you so much for coming to help us with our meet.
Fifteen of the seventeen optional gymnasts competed in the session. Competing at Level Seven (with ages listed in parentheses) were Tonie Butler (age 9); Mackenzie Ellis (age 10); Kendra Lytch (age 11); Kelsy Founds (age 14); Stephanie Singleton (age 14); and Tori Spears (age 14). The other Level Seven gymnast, thirteen-year-old Jessica McDonough could not attend due to recent dental surgery. Placing First All-Around were Tonie Butler and Kelsy Founds.
LEVEL SEVEN GYMNASTS - MINUS ONE
Front row, left to right are Tonie Butler, Mackenzie Ellis and Kendra Lytch. Back row left to right are Tori Spears, Kelsy Founds and Stephanie Singleton. Tonie, Mackenzie, Kendra and Stephanie were all members of the 2008 Level Six State Championship Team and the 2007 Level Five State Championship Team and have also been Individual All-Around State Champions.
The Level Eight competing gymnasts were Taylor Butler (age 11); Kimmie Edwards (age 13); Allyson Ferren (age 14); Tori Hanley (age 14) and Krista Carlisle (age 16). Placing First All-Around were Taylor Butler and Tori Hanley.
The Level Nine competing gymnasts were Haley Edgin (age 11); Courtney Ellis (age 13); Kayla Edgin (age 15); and Taylor Rai Johnson (age 15). From Level Four up, all gymnasts compete at the age they will be when they compete at State Meet, so all of the gymnasts may not actually be the age listed for them but they still compete against gymnasts of that age. The other Level Nine gymnast, Sarah McAlister did not compete in the Mock Meet. Placing First All-Around were Haley Edgin and Kayla Edgin.
Top score was also awarded for each level and winning Top Score for Level Seven was Tonie Butler. Taylor Butler and Tori Hanley tied for top scores for Level Eight and winning top score for Level Nine was Kayla Edgin.
Several of the gymnasts had to hurry and leave right after the meet and the photographer forgot that she wanted to take level photos, as well as the group photos.
These gymnasts have another month to work on perfecting their skills for their first meet of the season, the Pepsi Challenge to be hosted by Hot Springs Gymnastics.
We were trying to get a back view of our pretty jackets but soon discovered that it's impossible to get a back view and see the faces - so it was one or the other - decided faces were better!!

It was a fun, relaxed meet, Ladies, and we are really looking forward to the first competition.
